Railroading Merit Badge

Ages 11-17 • 25 participants • 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Price: $15.00 per scout and $9.00 per adult, excluding online ticket fees

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is the perfect setting for boys and girls involved in scouting to earn badges in railroading, working with historic artifacts and model trains. All requirements are fulfilled in a single day.

Arrangements may also be made to ride the Strasburg Rail Road after the program concludes. Fees for the train ride are separate from the railroading badge fee with the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. You must make arrangements on your own to schedule a train ride. The train does not run January through mid February.

Workshops for Troops

Most classes are booked in advance by troop on Saturdays (no holidays or museum special-events days). Classes require a strict minimum of six scouts and a maximum of fifteen scouts. Troops may be combined. A $50 deposit is required at least one week prior to the class. The balance is due on the date of the visit.

Workshops For Individual Scouts

The Railroading Merit Badge Workshop is offered 4 times per year.  In 2020, those dates are February 22, March 28, September 12 and November 14.  Registration opens at least 1 month prior to the event, with the date being advertised on the Museum’s website, Facebook page and Eventbrite.  Space is limited to 25 scouts unless specified otherwise.  Scouts must be accompanied by an adult.
