Right On Track For Reading On The Rails

For Immediate Release: February 26, 2022

Strasburg, Lancaster County, PA — You’re right on track for reading and railroading as special guests share stories about trains, railroads and other amazing people, places and things during the family-friendly Reading On The Rails event at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 12.

Kids will receive their very own “suitcase” and use it to travel from story to story throughout the day.  They can collect a sticker after each story and create their own suitcase design with stickers, crayons, glitter and other trimmings. A small gift to put inside their suitcase will be offered, while supplies last.

Special guest readers are set to include Margaret Miller, Judge, Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas; Kelly Osborne, Trooper, Pennsylvania State Police; Amy Banks, Arts Communications Manager, Millersville University Ware Center; Keith Greiner, Representative, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; Kristin Fernitz, Director, Strasburg-Heisler Library; Pamela Hults, author of the children’s book “Wild Animal ABC;” and Hillary Daecher, author of the children’s book “Soar.”

An American Sign Language interpreter will be on hand for the stories throughout the day. Also appearing will be Catcher, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s mascot, and various teams from Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS).  Reading On The Rails story times are 10:15 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. and are held among the historic trains in the Museum’s climate controlled Rolling Stock Hall.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is home to a world-class collection of about 100 historic locomotives and railroad cars, an immersive education center, a vast research library and archives, a working restoration shop, unique special events and exhibits and a museum store.
