Presidents' Day

Charter Day
Sunday, March 14, 2010. Regular Museum hours

Observe the 327th birthday of the Commonwealth, amid Pennsylvania made and operated historic rolling stock, here at the Keystone State’s official railroad museum. Open to the public free of charge.

Conrail Days. May 21 - 23, 2010.
The Consolidated Rail Corporation arose from a federal bail out of the railroad industry in the 1970s to become a profitable and successful private enterprise. The equipment, history and spirit of Conrail will be highlighted, in partnership with the Conrail Historical Society. Information.

Pennsylvania Railroad Pennsy Days
June 4 - 6, 2010.

Discover the rich heritage of the famous Pennsylvania Railroad, the “Standard Railroad of the World.” Noted railroad artists, photographers and authors display and sell their works. Special presentations, operating layouts, memorabilia and tours of “Pennsy” equipment are featured. See here for details.

MA and PA Day

View amazing models trains, historic photographs and artifacts on display today by members of the Maryland & Pennsylvania “MA & PA” Railroad Historical Society. 2009 Details.

Reading Railroad Days
June 30 through July 5. Regular Museum hours

Enjoy the remarkable Reading Railroad trains of eastern Pennsylvania history through tours of Reading Company equipment, a huge, operating model railroad and special presentations. Details.

Barons & Builders Day Camp
July 12 through July 16, 2010, for ages 9 & 10.
July 26 through July 30, 2010, for ages 11 & 12
Kids build, create, learn and play as they explore railroads and railroad history through a program of unique tours, innovative hands-on projects, field trips by train and special demonstrations. A limited number of openings are available for each day camp. Details.

Model Railroading Days. October 8 - 10, 2010.

Garden Railway Tours. October 10, 2010, 1 pm to 5 pm
Enjoy a self-guided tour of several private homes which feature beautiful garden railways, operating layouts and special model train collections.   Garden Railways tour tickets are $10 per person for ages 6 and over. In cooperation with the National Toy Train Museum. Information.

Greet our guys and gals in uniform, experience many splendid railroad and military archival displays, enjoy the patriotic spirit.  Details.

Ride the troop trains on the Strasburg Rail Road with living history reenactors on both days of the Railroad Museum’s Trains & Troops program. Troop train tickets are sold separately by the Strasburg Rail Road on line at www.strasburgrailroad.com.

Home For The Holidays
Saturday, December 4 & Saturday, December 11, 2010. Regular Museum hours

Take a nostalgic glimpse at holiday rail travel. Meet costumed engineers, conductors, ticket agents and passengers representing the past century and enjoy seasonal music, festive decorations, Jack Frost Station and a Polar Express party for young children among our world-class collection of trains. Included in the regular Museum admission. 2009 Details on Home for the Holidays.

Ride the Santa trains on the Strasburg Rail Road with the jolly old elf on both days of the Railroad Museum’s Home for the Holidays program. Santa train tickets are sold separately by the Strasburg Rail Road on line at www.strasburgrailroad.com.

Open Tues.-Sat., 9-5.
Open Sundays, 12-5.
Closed Mondays, except open:
Martin Luther King Jr Day: Monday, January 18. Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 15.
Monday after Christmas: Monday, Dec. 27, 2010.

April through October:
Open Mon.-Sat., 9-5.
Open Sundays, 12-5.

Some days are operated by the Friends of the Museum as a service to the public. Regular admission and regulations apply at all times.

The Museum is closed on certain major holidays, including:
New Year’s Day: January 1.
Thanksgiving Day: November 25.
Christmas Day: December 25

Closed Mondays from November through March, except open:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, and Monday after Christmas.

Open:
Martin Luther King Jr Day: January 18.
Presidents’ Day, February 15.
Easter: April 4.
Mother’s Day: May 9.
Memorial Day, May 31.
Father’s Day: June 20.
Independence Day: July 4.
Labor Day: September 6.
Columbus Day: October 11.
Veterans’ Day: November 11.
The day after Thanksgiving Day: November 26

 
     

Admission

  Tickets for general admission are not sold in advance, but may be purchased on the day of visit, except for a few special events as indicated.  
 

Prices:
Adult (ages 12 – 64) $10
Senior Citizen (65+) $ 9
Youth (3 – 11) $ 8
Age 2 and under FREE
Groups (10 or more adults): Call for discounted rates.
School Groups: Contact the Museum for Programs and Prices.
Members of the Friends of the Railroad Museum and PHMC Associates are covered by special admission policies.
Also, persons presenting an Adult full admission stub/receipt from another PHMC site will be admitted for $9.00.
Discounted Admission for Travel and Motor Clubs.
Some structured educational programs are conducted by special reservation and subject to additional charge. See Educational Programs page for details.
