2014 Calendar:

Breakfast With The Conductor & Catcher - Read Across America Day
Saturday, March 8, 2014
Enjoy breakfast with our conductor and friendly mascot Catcher this morning. Stay in the Museum after breakfast, wear your favorite hat and enjoy stories about trains, railroads and other amazing people, places and things from special guests. We’ll supply a suitcase and you can pick up collectible stickers featuring a different railroad logo from the past as you travel from story to story throughout the day. Advance registration, with a $10 per person fee, is required for breakfast. Registration begins January 28, 2014 for a limited number of breakfast spaces. Please call after the February 25, 2014 deadline to determine if spaces at breakfast are still available. Regular Museum admission rates also apply. Information and registration.

Charter Day
Sunday, March 9, 2014. Regular Museum hours

Observe the 333rd birthday of the Commonwealth, amid Pennsylvania made and operated historic rolling stock, here at the Keystone State’s official railroad museum. Open to the public free of charge.

Exhibit: A First Class Restaurant on Wheels -- The Story of the Railroad Dining Car
Saturday April 26 opening through December 31, 2014
For many years, the most memorable part of a train trip included a meal in a dining car, with comfortable accommodations, exquisite cuisine on fine china and service by well-trained staff. Featuring artifacts and photos from the Museum’s collection, this exhibit highlights the golden age of dining car service and the ways in which the railroads made train travel memorable for their passengers. Regular Museum hours. Included in the regular Museum admission. Details.

National Train Day
Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11.
Calling all trainiacs! Discover the rail way to travel, with activities for the entire family, including tours of Museum locomotives and railroad cars, hands-on history, fun facts about trains and a random drawing for prizes. Regular Museum hours. Included in the regular Museum admission.

Reading Railroad Days
Tuesday, July 1 - Sunday, July 6. Regular Museum hours

Enjoy the remarkable Reading Railroad trains of eastern Pennsylvania history through tours of Reading Company equipment, a huge, operating model railroad and special presentations. Details.

Barons & Builders Day Camp
July 14 through July 18, for ages 9 & 10.
July 28 through August 1, for ages 11 & 12
Kids build, create, learn and play as they explore railroads and railroad history through a program of unique tours, innovative hands-on projects, field trips by train and special demonstrations. Details. (All slots have been reserved; now accepting only for waitlist.)

Members Day  Sept. 27.
Special presentations and other events for members of the Friends of the Railroad Museum. Details.

Garden Railway Tour. October 5, 1 pm to 5 pm
Enjoy a self-guided tour of several private homes which feature beautiful garden railways, operating layouts and special model train collections.   Garden Railways tour tickets are $10 per person for ages 6 and over. Tickets go on sale at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania beginning August 1, 2014, and at all Stauffers of Kissel Hill locations in central Pennsylvania on September 1, 2014.

Greet our guys and gals in uniform, experience many splendid railroad and military archival displays, enjoy the patriotic spirit.  Details.

Ride the trains on the Strasburg Rail Road with living history reenactors on both days of the Railroad Museum’s Trains & Troops program. Train tickets are sold separately by the Strasburg Rail Road on line at www.strasburgrailroad.com.

Home For The Holidays
Saturday, December 6 & Saturday, December 13. Regular Museum hours

Take a nostalgic glimpse at holiday rail travel. Meet costumed engineers, conductors, ticket agents and passengers representing the past century and enjoy seasonal music, festive decorations, more, among our world-class collection of trains. Included in the regular Museum admission. Details on Home for the Holidays.

Also featuring Christmas with the Conductor. Special activities for kids. Registration and fee required. Details.

Ride the Santa trains on the Strasburg Rail Road with the jolly old elf on both days of the Railroad Museum’s Home for the Holidays program. Santa train tickets are sold separately by the Strasburg Rail Road on line at www.strasburgrailroad.com.

January, February, March, November and December:
Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sunday, 12:00 pm through 5:00 pm.

April through October:
Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sunday, 12:00 pm through 5:00 pm.

Some days are operated by the Friends of the Museum as a service to the public. Regular admission and regulations apply at all times.

Admission

  Tickets for general admission are not sold in advance, but may be purchased on the day of visit, except for a few special events as indicated.

Adult (ages 12 – 64) $10
Senior Citizen (65+) $ 9
Youth (3 – 11) $ 8
Age 2 and under FREE
Groups (10 or more adults): Call for discounted rates.
School Groups: Contact the Museum for Programs and Prices.
Members of the Friends of the Railroad Museum and PHMC Associates are covered by special admission policies.
Also, persons presenting an Adult full admission stub/receipt from another PHMC site will be admitted for $9.00.
Discounted Admission for Travel and Motor Clubs.
Some structured educational programs are conducted by special reservation and subject to additional charge. See Educational Programs page for details.
