Restoration Shop Tours
An Inside Look at Skilled Work Saving America's Railroad Treasures
We now offer daily Restoration Shop Tours. Tours run Monday through Saturday at 12:00 noon, with an overflow tour scheduled at 4:00 p.m. Sunday tours will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tours will last approximately 45 minutes.
Restoration Shop Tours will highlight the work in progress, funded variously by the FRM, state, federal and private sources, to preserve the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s treasures of American history.
Each tour will have a maximum of 20 persons and is accessible for people with disabilities. Children ages 5 and under are not permitted on the tour. Strollers also are not permitted.
Cost: The Restoration Shop Tour will be offered at an additional cost of $10.00 per person, applicable for all visitors, volunteers and FRM members. Proceeds from the tour will benefit the Railroad Museum’s restoration projects. Those interested in taking the tour should sign up at the Railroad Museum Admissions Desk in the lobby.
What You Will See: Work varies as different projects are undertaken. You may see staff examining old cars or locomotives to plan their restoration, our switcher that we restored, technicians reassembling intricate braking systems, or other pieces nearing completion.
Access and conditions are subject to activities underway and safety considerations.
