Volunteer of the Year

Each year, the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and Museum management select a Volunteer of the Year. This individual is also honored by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. This individual represents the high level of commitment and service that characterizes so many of our volunteers.

Volunteer of the Year.Stu Jack
has been selected as the Museum's Volunteer of the Year for 2017.

Stu volunteers in the Museum’s library and archives and interprets equipment in Rolling Stock Hall. Museum chief educator Patrick Morrison says, “Stu Jack is quite simply a tough act to follow. He is consistent, disciplined and extremely hard working. He has an uncanny ability to read people, provide a high level of attentiveness to their individual questions and interests and really make a connection with them.”

After he retired from a lifelong career as an industrial gas engineer with Union Carbide and its various divisions, Stu joined the Friends in 2014 and began volunteering at the Museum soon thereafter. Stu was raised in Rye, New York and graduated from Colgate University, majoring in sociology. He was commissioned in the U. S. Navy, served on a tanker, in Naval intelligence and as a submariner. A self-described big machine guy, Stu also is a licensed pilot.

Stu and his wife Pat, who reside in West Chester, Pennsylvania, have two sons and five grandchildren.

Information on volunteer opportunities at the museum may be found here.
