From 1864 until 1977, many U.S. communities in the United States, from the largest city to the smallest towns, were served by the Railway Mail Service.
About the main picture above. This picture above was posed the day following No. 460's 1927 exploit in carrying newsreel films of Charles Lindbergh's triumphal reception in Washington, DC to New York City theaters faster than a competing plane. The locomotive is preserved in the Museum's Rolling Stock Hall.
